Books, Cirque Louis, and Pete the Cat headline Southwest Regional Library’s Preschool Carnival
Preschool-age children and their families are invited to make merry at the Southwest Regional Library’s Preschool Carnival, Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free event features amazing feats from Cirque Louis, roving magic with Tom Causey, hands-on learning with the Louisville Children’s Museum, bubble fun with the Bubblecar, and child-friendly crafts. Make sure to get your picture taken with Pete the Cat, and stop by the Magbooth photo booth for a souvenir for the day. Every child attending will also receive a free book to take home, courtesy of the Jefferson County Community Early Childhood Council.

Enjoy Cherokee Park car-free and celebrate the fall season at Hayride on the Hill, presented by Rainbow Blossom Natural Food Markets, Olmsted Parks Conservancy, and Louisville Parks & Recreation on Sunday, October 27 from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Attendees will enjoy a guided hayride around Scenic Loop in Cherokee Park; live music from Brigid Kaelin and Aaron Bibelhouser (of Relic), and kids activities like Olmsted Parks Conservancy’s Free Play experience, face painting and more.
Olmsted Parks Conservancy’s Free Play experience provides a self-directed play space for children to build, create, and engage on their own terms, using ordinary materials while trained facilitators supervise without interfering in the play process. As the kids turn cardboard boxes into forts, hay bales into obstacle courses, and chalks into work of art, they are building creativity, teamwork, confidence and imagination.

The 26th Annual Southern Lights holiday festival will return to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, November 29-December 31. (Non-Driving Holiday Festival activities closed Dec. 24-31) The Kentucky Horse Park Foundation presents Southern Lights annually, a greatly anticipated holiday tradition for families all across Kentucky, in support of the programs, activities and facilities of the Kentucky Horse Park. From 5:30 until 10:00 pm each evening, visitors will be awed by the dazzling display of majestic lights. The drive will begin at the Kentucky Horse Park Campground, and will proceed through an enhanced dreamland of dazzling lighted and often animated figures. While many displays represent the holiday season, favorites are customized to represent the Bluegrass state.
